Project

Full electrical installation and commissioning for Ontario’s first greenfield flour mill in 75 years.

Location

Sector

Large white concrete grain silos and a connected processing building under a clear blue sky at an industrial milling facility

From challenge to

completed project

P&H Milling’s new $45-million Hamilton facility required a complete electrical installation across a highly automated, food-grade environment. Requirements ranged from hundreds of light receptacles to millions of feet of cable and conduit powering bulk handling, conveying, grinding, air handling, and communications systems.

P&H Milling needed a contractor with food-industry credentials, the scale to staff the project without subcontracting, and the flexibility to absorb scope changes and weather delays without disrupting production timelines. Spark Power delivered the full electrical scope across every system in the facility, then handed over complete as-built documentation.

How we

solved it

  • Installed and tested all electrical systems to light the mill and power the extensive automation and communications infrastructure.
  • Powered bulk handling, conveying, grinding and processing, air filtering and air handling equipment across the full facility.
  • Completed full pre-commissioning checks and functional testing.
  • Coordinated with instrumentation and controls teams throughout the build.
  • Delivered updated drawings, single-line diagrams, and a complete as-built package at project close.

The metrics

that matter

  • Fully installed and commissioned electrical infrastructure for a 480-tonne/hour facility. Every system powered, from automation and communications to bulk handling and air filtration.
  • Food-safety compliance met across HACCP, GFSI, and BRC standards. Spark Power’s food-industry track record ensured all applicable certifications were met from day one.
  • Flexible, non-union workforce absorbed scope changes and weather delays. No subcontracting. Spark scaled internal staff as demands shifted throughout the build.
  • Ontario’s first greenfield mill in 75+ years delivered on time. Complete as-built package including updated drawings and single-line diagrams handed over at project close.

When you look for an electrical contractor with the scope and scalability that we required for our new Hamilton mill as well as the food-industry experience, you find [Spark Power] — that’s it.
